Access an Inaccessible SSP with a Farm Administrator Account

You know the scenario:  You are a farm administrator but you cannot access to the Shared Service Provider (SSP) site collection to administer the SSP – Access Denied.

Here is how to give yourself access to the SSP:

1) Go to the Site Collection Administrators interface. Link via Central Administration | Application Management | SharePoint Site Management.

2) Change the Site Collection by selecting the Web Application and root URL for your SSP.

3) Set the Secondary Site Collection Administrator to the account you are using to access the SSP.

That’s it.  Now navigate to the SSP administration site once more to get in.

That did not work for me as there are more than one applications to the SSP .
How can a new Farm administrator take control of the SSP (that was already existing) when previous SSP administrators are unavailable (left the organisation, lets say when no body knows who they were).

There must be way for new Farm administrators to save the whole Sharepoint installation from inaccesible SSP. 8/22/2010 5:14 PM | Abhinav
