Installing FreeSSHd on Windows 2008

FreeSSHd is a free SSH Server available for personal or commercial use.  The server software can be used as an SFTP server.

Installing FreeSSHd is pretty simple and straightforward if you keep a couple of things in mind:

- On Windows 2008, you must install the software as an Administrator.  Although the installation can be performed simply by clicking on the install EXE, be sure to right click and “Run as Administrator”.

- The other thing to keep in mind is that you will need to restart the windows service in order for user changes to take effect.  If you do not restart the service you will be confronted with Access Denied errors when attempting to access the SFTP server.

The program is weak at best. I am having the same issue. I uninstalled/reinstalled. Tried forcing permissions on the directory itself. Changed server accounts, ETC... Yet, I still get the same error. I will keep digging. If I find a resolution, I will post it. 9/17/2010 6:55 AM | Brian

I'm getting an error using PuTTY:

Event Log: Started a shell/command
Event Log: Server sent command exit status -1073741502

SFTP works perfectly, but it looks like I'm unable to run the default CMD after the login/password. 4/12/2011 12:45 PM | Dean
